Indonesian ferry on fire - many dead

An Indonesian ferry sailing between Java and Sumatra caught fire killing 11 people and injuring 200. The incident happened at 3am when the Sumatra bound ferry was just 40 minutes into its voyage.

Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago and thus relies on ferries to transport people and goods around the country. Ferries tend to be old, poorly maintained and severly overloaded. Today's accident was likely the result of a tossed cigarette, which once again prives smoking can kill.
