Living in Bali as an expat

Living in Bali as an expat can seem like a dream at first, a pleasant dream in that you aren't face to face with your boss from wherever you're from and also an altered reality dream because there's no one to tell you to get going or to slow down.

Getting used to the sub-standard services and attitudes towards work / service / quality takes some getting used to. Some Bali expats never get used to it and a slow resentment starts to build. "Why can't my staff remember to turn off the lights in the morning?" ask one expat. "Why do Indonesians insist on trying to drive THROUGH you?" asks another. Whatever the answers are and whatever is going on in other people's minds is a mystery.

Being an expat in Bali means you have to remind yourself on a daily basis why you came here in the first place...and check that reason is still applicable. Better to be a happy expat than a sour expat.
