Married expats - permanent residence and right to work

The Indonesian government has passed a revised Immigration Law that allows expats married to Indonesian citizens permanent residence and the right to seek employment.

This news seems almost unbelievable to those expats who have lived in Indonesia for a while. Up until now those foreigners married to locals had to apply for visas overseas as well as visa extensions once back in Indonesia, with no right to work. This new law wipes all that away and creates a climate of positivity in which expats can live and work as civilized people rather than criminals on probation.
