Strategic Airlines currently operates regular services between Perth and Derby, Perth and Bali, Brisbane and Townsville, Townsville and Bali, Brisbane and Port Hedland, Port Hedland and Bali, with non-stop services soon to start between Brisbane and Bali, Brisbane and Phuket, and Melbourne and Phuket. 

Strategic has been allocated an additional 1,514 seats per week to Indonesia from the International Air Services Commission (IASC). This is enough for Strategic to operate 10 more A320 services per week; presumably this capacity will be utilised on four additional Perth-Denpasar flights, three Melbourne-Denpasar and three Sydney-Denpasar per week each. Strategic has also been granted 6 A330 services per week to Phuket from the IASC. Soon after, Strategic announced that they will be flying to Phuket from Brisbane and Melbourne, 2 times per week each.

758 Die in Bali Traffic Accidents

Bali’s roads have become the scene of unprecedented carnage, with 758 people dying in traffic accidents in just three months, 200 more fatalities than all of last year, police said on Friday.

An average of more than eight people a day died on the resort island’s roads in March, April and May. “This has become a great concern,” said Sr. Comr. Syauqie Ahmad, head of the Bali Police’s traffic department. He said May was the deadliest month, with 286 deaths and 360 injuries, followed by March with 248 dead and 302 injured. The death toll in April was 224, with another 281 injured. Syauqie said 541 people died in traffic accidents in all of 2010. He said he believed the rise in fatalities was linked to the increase in the number of vehicles on the island. In 2006 1.58 million vehicles were registered on the island. That number has risen to 2.35 million so far this year. (July 12th 2011).

Visa processing time at Ngurah Rai airport Bali

Visa processing at Bali's Denpasar airport has always been notoriously slow. Too many planes arrive in a 4 hour period between 1pm and 5pm, there are not enough immigration officers (maybe 4-5 on a good day) and they often insist on a lengthy question and answer session.

This sort of service for tourists arriving from distant locations does not help serve the Bali tourism ndustry at all. In fact it is one of the negatives associated with coming to Bali. 

A recent account of arrival processing times at 9pm revealed an approximate 30 minute wait before being stamped. Once immigrantiion is cleared Customs clearance is fast. The next hurdle is hiring a taxi, a process that itself took about 20 minnutes recently.
