Photo: Dede Suryana (IDN) showed impressive surfing today, posting solid scores with maneuvers like this to win his Round 3 heat and advance.

Day Two of the Rip Curl Pro Terengganu was off to a slow start this morning with rain and windy conditions delaying the start until 9:30, but the weather did clear up and the sun came out so the competitors and spectators have been enjoying sunny weather. The Quarterfinalists for the Open Men will be decided today with the end of Round 3 and the Women competitors will be in the water soon so stay tuned for more results.

Round 1 of Mens Open and Bodyboard Divisions Completed on Day One of Rip Curl Pro Terengganu

30 November 2012, Terengganu-Malaysia: Day One of the Rip Curl Pro Terengganu got off to an exciting start this morning as Terengganu’s local dignitaries and event sponsors sounded off air horns to officially open the event at 10:30 am.

The Round 1 competitors in the Men’s Open were the first to see action in the 2-3 foot waves, with the mild weather and minimal winds making for perfect conditions for surfers and spectators alike, with many of Malaysia’s surfing fans heading down to the beach to get their weekend started.  In the Terengganu area, their weekend consists of Friday and Saturday due to their Muslim religion, which necessitates a mid day break for prayers each day as well.

After the mid day break, the 26 bodyboarders from Malaysia, the Maldives, and Japan had their chance to compete, while some of the other competitors skated on the slalom course and free surfed down the beach, and the spectators had a chance to take surf lessons with Jonathan Morrison-Deaker from the Rip Curl School of Surf, play games at the Fanta and Rip Curl booths, get their board painted by surfboard artist Laura Mannheim, eat tons of Nestle ice cream, and just relax and watch the action going down in the water.

Tomorrow will see Round 2 of the Men’s Open hit the water first thing at 7:30 am, in what promises to be a very full day of competitive action.  If you are anywhere near Terengganu, come on down to the beach and enjoy the show!

30 November 2012, Terengganu-Malaysia: Day One of the Rip Curl Pro Terengganu got off to an exciting start this morning, with the Terengganu’s local dignitaries and event sponsors sounding off their air horns to officially open the event. Two to three foot waves and mild weather has made for perfect conditions for surfers and spectators alike, with many of Malaysia’s surfing fans heading down to the beach to get a peek at the action. 2012 Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship Awards Presentation Coming Up at the W Retreat and Spa in Seminyak on 2nd of November

30 October 2012, Kuta-Bali:  The Coca Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship Tour will celebrate its 9th season on the 2nd of November with a formal Championship Awards Presentation at the W Retreat and Spa in Bali’s upscale Seminyak area, with an After Party at the nearby Mantra Restaurant and Bar.

The doors will open for the formal dress code invitation-only dinner at 7:00 pm, with a specially prepared 4-course meal and drinks and a photo/video montage of images and scenes from this year’s surfing competition events, held across Indonesia from West Sumbawa to the Mentawaii Islands of Sumatra and including Phuket, Thailand.

The 2012 Awards Presentation will follow, where Indonesia’s surfing champions will be honored for their outstanding competitive performance and commitment during the 2012 season and receive their trophies and winner’s checks.  Six divisions will crown champions this year as follows:

OPEN DIVISION – RADITYA RONDI

WOMEN’S DIVISION – YASNYIAR GEA

MASTER’S DIVISION – KETUT JULIARTA

PRO JUNIOR DIVISION – GAZALI HAMZAH

JUNIOR DIVISION – RAJU SENA

LONGBOARD DIVISION – ARIP “MENCOS” NURHIDAYAT

Of special mention is the fact that Yasnyiar “Bonne” Gea has now won her 5^th consecutive Indonesian Women’s title, Arip “Mencos” Nurhidayat is the Longboard Champion for the 2^nd year running, and Ketut Juliarta will receive his 2^nd Masters title.  In addition to the crowning of the champions, other awards and recognition will be given to those individuals, event sponsors, and supporters of the Coca-Cola ISC tour that have made outstanding contributions to the sport of surfing in Indonesia.

Following the close of the Awards Presentation will be the After Party at Mantra presented by Ketel One Vodka, which will start at approximately 11 pm. All are invited to join in and party with Indonesia’s pro surfers, together with the industries and people that support them.

Indonesia’s Top Skater Penavi Perma Signs Head to Toe Contract with DC Indonesia

Jakarta:  DC Indonesia is delighted to announce the signing of Indonesia’s top skater, 25 year old Pevi Permana from Bandung, to a full head-to-toe contract with the world’s most progressive skate and extreme sport brand.

As DC Indonesia’s brand ambassador, not only to Indonesia but to the entire South East Asia region, Pevi will now be fully supported as he will be both competing and putting on skating demonstrations and coaching clinics throughout Indonesia and beyond.

“Pevi has been with DC here in Indonesia since 2009, but only on a shoe contract, so we’re very excited to finally have him with us 100%,” said Quiksilver SEA CEO Paul Hutson.  “He’s not only the Number 1 skater in Indonesia but such a great ambassador for skating and our DC brand as well,working with kids and always leading by example.  DC is experiencing such great reception in the market place and is growing rapidly, so with Pevi leading our DC skate team we couldn’t be more optimistic about the success of DC in our region.” 

Pevi’s list of career accomplishments in Asia’s skating world is a lengthy one, and includes top podium finishes in major national Indonesian skating events such as the recent Open Piero Pro Class Contest in Bandung this year, as well as in competition’s abroad including a 3^rd place finish in the 2007 Indoor X Games Macau-China and a 4^th place finish in the 2010 Extreme Championship Vert Contest in Taiwan.  Pevi has also won Surftime Magazine’s “Skater of the Year Award” three times, in 2007, 2009, and 2010.

“I’m extremely proud to be on the DC team,” said Pevi.  “I’ve always had great support from DC since way back in 2009, and now that I’m 100% a DC skate team member and brand ambassador I’m looking forward to doing lots of cool things in the skate community.  I love competing and I love hanging out with all my skate friends and fans, so this is a dream job for me.  I couldn’t be happier.  Thanks so much to DC!

Pevi recently participated in the South East Asian DC Tour that saw DC skate and BMX pro’s from America and Australia coming to Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand to give demonstrations and coaching clinics as well as attend press conferences and meet-n-greet sessions.  In 2013 there will be another DC Tour, where Pevi will head up a team that will tour major cities around Indonesia, teaching kids to skate, coaching up-and-coming talents, and performing skate demonstrations for his fans and the growing DC fan base.

An online Facebook competition held by O'Neill Indonesia, where contestants had to submit a comment as to why they wanted to win the opportunity to surf with the Californian sensation, the winner to be chosen by Sage herself. Hanging out in Bali  for the ASP Oakley World Pro Junior's, Sage was all too eager to get involved with the Initiative "I've been coming to Bali for years now and have always wanted to get more involved with the beautiful Balinese community here"  said Sage, "I chose Cinta Hansel as the winner as her comment was really inspiring and encouraging as a surfer, we all start young with whatever passion or journey we wish to pursue in life. With Cinta being so young and striving to be a pro, I would love the chance to give back to her and hopefully help her dream come true." "The chance for any aspiring surfer to get an opportunity to spend a day surfing and hanging out  with a pro is a pretty special thing.
