Happy New Year from Bali!!!

Happy New Year to all Balinese people, expats (with good hearts) and Bali visitors (especially the ones who show some understanding).

Its been a wet year here in Bali and hopefully the early arrival of westertly winds means the faster than normal end to the wet season.

New Years promises to be action packed and Kuta will be hyper-active. The Seminyak beautiful people will be out at KuDeta and Hu'u while the normal people will enjoy the street fireworks, beachside music while sipping on a cold Bintang.

Its going to a wet one. With 2010 being one of the wettest years on record Christmas / New Years 2010 will continue the trend. Still for 2011 Bali visitors there is some light at the end of the tunnel. The westerly winds that usually arrive in Bali in February started to arrive in December, meaning the start of the dry season could come quickly and therefore leading to a longer dry season. Hooray for good weather!

Christmas tips for Bali

1.       Expect rainy weather. The forecast says 10 days of straight rain. Buy an umbrella

2.       Bring a bottle of your favourite liquor. Its 300% duty in Bali so stock up on your favourite drink, but remember, only 1 liter per person.

3.       Enjoy the selection of cheap and interesting Indonesian food. Can make a rainy day fun.

4.       Go to a fruit market and buy everything you see.  You’ll enjoy exploring the different Indonesian fruits. If you like them , great. If not the staff at your hotel will appreciate them.

5.       Get out of Kuta. Raining or not, Bali is beautiful. A lot more beautiful minus the grey cement.  So hire a car and get out to the coast / mountains.

6.       If you are sick of Kuta get up to Blue Ocean beach at the end of Jl. Double Six in Legian. Plenty of restaurants / bars and a good fun time.
