The death of terror leader Osama Bin Ladin at the hands of US Navy Seals has been celebrated around the world by decent people as a fitting end to his career. Here in Bali locals seem mildly interested. Bali has its own connection to Bin Ladin through its experience with the bombings in 2002 and 2005. The organization behind those bombing, (JI) Jemaah Islamiyah is itself connected to Al Queda.
In recent days police have manned roadblocks on major roads in Bali checking vehicles for terror equipment. On Jl. Seminyak police can be seen at intersections waving traffic through and generally showing their presence.
There is a possibility that extremist may try to again target westerners but hopefully the security services will be able to detect and prevent that.
