Ramadan has started in Indonesia. Sunday night was the beginning of all the excitement and Muslins all over the country will be getting up at 4am to cook and eat before sunrise. No food or water can be taken during daylights hours for a full month.

These cultural aspects of th month of Ramadan, the group participation and sense of 'adventure' create a special mood for Muslim people. Whether or not a person attends a masjid (mosque) there is no escaping the event and other people's participation.
For visitors to Bali there will be little sign of anything special going on, with the exception of large groups outside mosques for evening prayers.
