Today is Galungan in Bali. Galungan is the most important time of the year (210 day lunar cycle) for Balinese Hindus. It is the time when the spirits of ancestors return to Earth for a 10 day period. Special ceremonies occurs and pigs will be slaughtered for babi guling (spit roasted baby pig).
What this means for locals - Excitement, community involement, ceremonies, time off of work and a chance to return to the village.
What this means for foreignors - Many beautiful penjors (street-side decorated bamboo poles) to admire, quieter streets and crowded warung / restaurants (the ones that are open).
