According to the press release, DWM first fell ill on Feb.11. He was rushed to the nearest hospital four days later because his feverish condition had shown no signs of improvement. On Feb.20, it was feared that the young boy had contracted bird flu. He passed away the next day.
The ministry had deployed officials to screen the family house and but could not find definitive indications confirming bird flu.
To date, the ministry has recorded 186 bird flu cases in Indonesia, with 154 cases resulting in death. Bird flu first became a scare across the country in 2005.
