EPIC 50TH ASP TOUR WIN FOR 11-TIME WORLD CHAMPION KELLY SLATER

Huntington Beach, Calif. (September 20, 2012) – Quiksilver’s Kelly Slater made history today by capturing his 50th Elite ASP Tour victory at San Onofre State Beach in Lower Trestles, CA.  Slater, 40, is the first surfer to achieve 50 tour wins, and 11 ASP World Titles, accomplishments spanning two decades of an unparalleled career during which he has dominated competitive surfing as both the youngest and oldest ASP World Champion. Slater’s win today marks special significance as it takes place on the same beach where he took home his 1st world tour title event 22 yearsago.

In commenting on his 50th tour win, Slater said, “I have to thank the fans – not only today, but over the years. It’s such a blessing to be surfing at Trestles.” Slater continues, “It’s cool to win the 50th here. I won my first event as a pro here, and it’s great to get this win.”

“Kelly’s determination and unrelenting drive as a professional competitor is extraordinary to witness,” said Bob McKnight, CEO of Quiksilver. “After over two decades of watching him conquer countless milestones in professional surfing, we are once again proud and in awe as we watch him win his 50th tour victory. The collective Quiksilver global family joins me in congratulating Kelly!”

Today’s competition started with Slater advancing out of the fifth round of the Hurley Pro over Jeremy Flores. Slater continued surfing at the top of his career beating out Adrian Buchan in the Quarterfinals, and surpassing Mick Fanning in the Semifinals. Slater outstretched remaining contender, Joel Parkinson in the Finals to collect his 50th tour win culminating a 20+year effort.
