1 November 2012, Kuta-Bali:

Taiwan Open of Surfing has already drawn the attention of Asia’s top

of South Eastern Taiwan to surf and compete in this historic event.
Current ASC and Coca-Cola ISC Men’s Champion Raditya Rondi
from Bali, Indonesia is excited about his first trip to Taiwan, saying, “I’ve
seen the video’s from last year’s event as well as free surfing photos from
Marlon (Gerber), Garut (Widiarta) and Dede’s (Suryana) trip, and the waves look
super good. I’m really looking
forward to getting to surf and compete there, and hopefully bringing home the
first place trophy! Getting to
travel around Asia to places like this to surf and meet new people is so good,
so I’m that the ASC has been developing this tour for us and to the
Taitung government for sponsoring this contest.”
According a press release from the organizers there will be
also be some well known international pro surfers joining the event for expression
sessions and surfing lessons, such as ASP Australasia Women's Longboard
No.1 ranked Georgia Young, 2009 Australian Open Female Longboard title holder
Rosie Locke, Australian wonderkid longboarder Nic Jones, free surfer and world
traveler Dean Brady, and ASP Pro Junior Wade Carmichael.
Last year’s competition, the 2011 Taitung County
International Surf Challenge presented by Quiksilver, was the first ASC contest
to be held in Taiwan, and saw 80 competitors from Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia,
Australia, America, Hawaii, and France showing up to compete. The Men’s Open division was won by 18
year old Indonesian Sandi Selamat, who took home a check for just over USD
$2,000 (NTD 63,000), and the Open Longboard Division was taken out by
Australian Jackson Close.
This year’s Taiwan Open of Surfing will draw an even larger
contingent of Asian pro surfers, who are gunning for ASC championship points
and the biggest prize purse yet on the Asian Surfing Championship Tour, as well as Taiwan's hottest up and coming surfers.
The south east coast of Taiwan is rife with great surfing
spots, and this year’s event will again be held at Jinzun Harbor, which offers
both left and righthanders from a central peak. Jinzun Harbor is in the town of Donghe, which is approximately
45 minutes away from the city of Taitung, and there are also other surf spots
close to Donghe for free surfing.
The registration fee is NT$800(around US$25) per division,
and includes lunch during the 3 days of competition (16-18th November). There will be a welcoming party on the 16th
of November and the Awards Presentation/Farewell Party on the 18th.
In addition to the surfing, it’s also a good opportunity to
explore the beauty of Taitung and get close to indigenous culture, music, enjoy
the hot springs, mountains and sea.

About the Asian Surfing
Championships
The
Asian Surfing Championships began in 2011 with the mission of growing the sport
of surfing in South East Asia from the grassroots level, by assisting each
country in organizing professional surfing events that will develop the skills
of their surfers in healthy competition as well as to draw attention to their
area for the progression of surfing locally, nationally, and throughout the SEA
area.
Organized
surfing competitions have historically been the best medium for the development
of surfers and for the sport of surfing, where learning how to compete fairly
and to being disciplined in training and competition are key skills needed not
only for surfing but also for life.
The ASC works with the local, national and
multinational event sponsors and organizers to maximize the results of these
competitive surfing events towards accomplishing the goals of sharing the sport
of surfing and bringing positive economic, social, and environmental benefits
to the people in these South East Asian countries. See more at http://www.asiansurfingtour.com
