Round 1 of the Longboard Division Held in Excellent Conditions on Day 1 of the 2012 Taiwan Open of Surfing

16 November 2012, Jinzun Harbor-Taitung County: Nic Jones from Australia’s Sunshine Coast shined in his Round 1 heat today, claiming the highest single wave total of 7.45 as well as the highest combined heat score of 14.25 (out of a possible 20) so far in the round.

“I love Taiwan,” said Jones.“I am stoked to be back here. I was just here last month and I love this place. I got a bit of a stomach flu a couple of days ago so not feeling in top form, so I’m really pleased to have gotten some good scores. I hope I can start feeling better as the competition progresses and continue to get some good results. The waves are great so it makes it really fun to compete here.”

The Taiwan Open of Surfing will run from 16-18 November at Jinzun Harbor in Taitung County Taiwan, an Asian Surfing Championship sanctioned Ultima event with the NTD 600,000 (USD $20,000) in prize money up for grabs across the Men’s, Women’s, Longboard and special “Noseriding” divisions, the biggest prize purse ever offered for a surfing event in Taiwan.
