Food prices as well as other prices have been climbing steadily over the last 1.5 years in Bali. As any Bali expat will tell you, the days of cheap food are coming closer to an end, at least the $1 plates that could be obtained for years.
Local Indonesian warungs and Padang places that used to serve a plate of food for 10,000rp-15,000rp a year ago are now pushing to 20,000rp. The solution for many Bali visitors, expats and locals is to steer clear of any warung or restaurant on the main street, head for the side streets where lower rents mean the place has more of a chance of offering lower prices.
