7th Annual ASC Sanctioned Monsoon Mayhem International Surf Challenge Returns to Desaru Beach in Malaysia from January 4-6

7th Annual ASC Sanctioned Monsoon Mayhem International Surf Challenge Returns to Desaru Beach in Malaysia from January 4-6

21 December 2012, Kuta-Bali:  The 7th annual Monsoon Mayhem International Surf Challenge returns to Desaru Beach in Malaysia from 4-6 January 2013 as a 2-star Asian Surfing Championship event, which will draw both professional and amateur surfers from all over South East Asia including Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan to compete for the $14,000 MYR ($4,600 USD) in total prize money and ASC championship points, and just to have heaps of fun at this unique event.

Located just east of Johor Baru in Malaysia and the closest surfing beach to Singapore, Desaru Beach is a white sand strip of beachbreak that can offer up peaceful glassy conditions as well as maniacally thumping closeouts during the monsoon season, so what will be on offer each year is anybody’s guess. Mother Nature is a fickle beast and each year does her best to make sure that the event lives up to its “Mayhem” moniker.

There will be surfing competitions in four categories, Men’s Open, Women’s Open Masters (35 years of age and older), and Bodyboard), as well the Slide Jam Longboarding Competition, which saw tremendous success last year and is expected to draw skaters from all over Malaysia and Singapore to compete for the $1,000 RM first place prize.

The brainchild of Nazir “Ajill” Salleh of Bigfoot Industries, a surf and skate product retailer in Singapore, the Monsoon Mayhem event has continued to grow in popularity each year as a surf, skate, and music event. This is the third year the surfing competition has been sanctioned by the ASC, and it looks to be another exciting event drawing surfers, skaters, and their fans to the South East Malaysian beach once again.

For more information and details about the Monsoon Mayhem, how to get there from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, as well as accommodation options see the Bigfoot Industries (BGFT)Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/events/403742169700962/?ref=ts&fref=ts
or just send an email with your inquiries to bfinternational@gmail.com.

The Monsoon Mayhem event is supported by the Malaysian state of Johor as both a tourism promotion activity and in support of the growth of surfing in Malaysia.

Monsoon Mayhem 2013 is organized by Bigfoot Industries, JOHO and Boomslang, sanctioned by the Asian Surfing Championships with official event partners Tourism Malaysia, Tourism Johor, Pejabat Memeterian Pelancongan Negeri Johor, Kejora, sponsored by UNKL347, Fatimah Mohsin The Wedding Gallery, and Light Connections and is supported by the Surfing Association of Singapore, Johor Surfing Association, and MRB.

About the Asian Surfing Championships

The Asian Surfing Championships began in 2011 with the mission of growing the sport of surfing in South East Asia from the grassroots level by assisting each country in organizing professional surfing events that will develop the skills of their surfers in healthy competition as well as to draw attention to their area for the progression of surfing locally, nationally, and throughout the SEA area.

Organized surfing competitions have historically been the best medium for the development of surfers and for the sport of surfing, where learning how to compete fairly and to being disciplined in training and competition are key skills needed not only for surfing but also for life.

The ASC works with the local, national and multinational event sponsors and organizers to maximize the results of these competitive surfing events towards accomplishing the goals of sharing the sport of surfing and bringing positive economic, social, and environmental benefits to the people in these South East Asian countries.  See more at http://www.asiansurfingtour.com
