The bloody traffic in Bali, or rather South Bali is getting unbearable. Jl. Raya Kerobokan, Jl. Seminyak, Jl. Pantai Kuta and the entire Bypass are struggling under the weight of traffic. This combined with the lack of any driving intelligence on the aprt of the locals and aggressive 'bules' on holiday and you have chaos.
In the last 10 years Bali has seen a massive influx of people from all over Indonesia and the world. Another watershed event was the introduction of credit when purchasing motorbikes. Previously a 4 person family owned 1 motorbike which was shared. Now each member of the family has their own bike....bought on credit. This means that the number of new bikes and cars on the roads totally overwhelms capacity.
Best strategies for dealing with the traffic in South Bali include avoiding rush hours periods, Saturday nights and certain streets (Jl. Teuku Umar in Denpasar, the Simpang Siur area, Jl. Raya Kerobokan etc.
If things get worse maybe we should all move to Lombok.
