Bali Nine's Martin Stephens final appeal rejected

Bali Nine drug trafficking gang member Martin Stephens has had his final appeal against a life sentence rejected by Indonesia's Supreme court.

Stephens was given life in prison after being caught trying to smuggle more than three kilograms of heroin out of Bali in April 2005 with 8 other young Australians. Losing his first appeal shortly after being sentenced he then lodged his final appeal with Indonesia’s supreme court in August last year arguing he was not involved in organising the smuggling ring and should be given a more lenient sentence.

This is a sad example of what can happen to a young stupid westerner in Indonesia. The country's laws on drugs are clear cut, don't ask for them, don't buy them, don't use them, don't carry them, don't sell them. This young man ignored all the warning sign and attempted to earn some quick cash by acting as a drug trafficker.

Sad to see a young man sentenced to spending his life in a prison. Don't let it happen to you.
