Indonesian warungs - great food, food great price

One of the best ways to get an understanding of Indonesian culture as well as a full belly is to visit an local warung. You'll be amazed at the variety of food items served in a warung and no doubt will tell your friends and relatives about your latest discoveries.

When you eat at a local warung in Bali you'll be asked what kind of rice you want. Your choices are nasi merah (red rice), nasi kunung (yellow rice) and nasi putih (white rice). These are served hot and steaming. After that you just check out the pre-cooked food either under a glass cover or in hotplates. You might choose a piece of bbq chicken, some kangkung (stringey greens), a perketel kentang (potato cake ) and a sate stick.
