One of the highlights of the year for locals, expats and tourists alike is the New Years Eve celebrations in Bali. People seem eager to participate in the festivities, and streets are often abuzz with energy. Another group of people who eagerly anticipate New Years Eve are firework sellers. Indonesia does not appear to have any laws governing the public use of fireworks and this means people are free to buy and sells fireworks on the street, the buyer often firing them right there and then.
One of the modern variants that is popular in Bali is the hand-held tube that shoots 6 loud shots into the air. Its all good as long as the person firing keeps the device pointed straight up. When attention wavers, aim follows and all kinds of pyrotechnical havoc results.
