Fishing fans be be happy hear that Bali has plenty of places to fish inland, not just in the ocean. Among the huge selection of great scenic places is a river in Tabanan in West Bali.
Head west of Tabanan on the main road for about 15 minutes and look for signs for Meleling. Turn inland to the right and continue in for about 10-15 minutes, finally taking a left turn which will lead you to a river system sooner of later.
Bali does have fishing shops selling rods and other fishing gear. Most locals will use shrimp and light the thing as far as possible, often using a headlight to attract the fish as the light levels diminish. You'll sometimes see groups of locals trying to fish a river with a net, grabbing small fish and anything they can get. The 2 most common fish in Balinese rivers and reservoirs are lele (catfish) and gurame. Catfish can get to 20kgs here.
Plenty of opportunity to get off of the main roads here and explore larger rivers. Often as in the case of the river near Meleling, the scene is totally beautiful with plenty of space, areas to stand in the center of the river and cast anywhere you like and Gunung Agung watching in the distance.
If some members of your group don't have rods use a Coke bottle for a hand reel, it can work ok.
Locals don't seem to know much about bait and often are satisfied to bring home tiny fish. Be creative and you can have some fun here fly fishing in Bali.
